Power Yes and No Statements issue ?

Ive asked this question in the past and got perfect help but of course I wanted to complicate it by adding a twist.

Here is what I am shooting for something like this

Code:
echo "hello Dude"
echo "did your day suck"
echo "Y or N"
read answer

  if [ $answer = "Y" -o $answer = "y" ]; then

OUTPUT OUTPUT

fi
____________________________________________ <---- This second half is incorrect I know. Above the line by its self works I add second part is Syntax's
if [ $answer = "N" -o $answer = "n" ]; then

OUTPUT OUTPUT sorry

fi

Now say I wanted to make it like TWO parts say they DON'T want to say Y and say N how do I make it echo something different for N.

Its probably very confusing to understand when I just throw it up there any questions to my structure just ask
Thanks if anyone can help Smilie

Do u mean how to use if-else or some thing like that.
If my guess is right , this code may help you

Code:
echo "hello Dude"
echo "did your day suck"
echo "Y or N"
read answer

  if [ $answer = "Y" -o $answer = "y" ]; then

echo "YES" ;
else
#____________________________________________ <---- This second half is incorrect I know. Above the line by its self works I add second part is Syntax's
#if [ $answer = "N" -o $answer = "n" ]; then
echo "false" ;
#OUTPUT OUTPUT sorry

fi

Maybe I wasn't clear :(

I am just trying to get YES and NO to work work with different replies in the same script regardless what they type Smilie
that would have been a lot better I'm assuming to say Smilie

Like Y = " XX xx XX "
and y = " XX xx XX "
but N = " XXXXX XX"
and etc etc....

Make sense ? I hope so ha.

Are you asking like this?????
Code:
echo "hello Dude"
echo "did your day suck"
echo "Y or N"
read answer
if [ $answer = "Y" -o $answer = "y" ]
then
                echo "YES........"
elif [ $answer = "N" -o $answer = "n" ]
then
        echo "NO........."
else #entering the option other than yes and no....
        echo "Wrong option....."
fi

Hey Producer,

I think as dennis.jacob suggested, you better see the syntax of Case statement and try it. That will be more easier with Case statement.

I know this may not be relevant to what you're trying to do, but in
Code:
  if [ $answer = "Y" -o $answer = "y" ]; then

You used the assignment operator =. I think you meant to use the equality test operator == or -eq. Also, I'm not sure if the equality operator has precedence over the OR operator. I'd have to check.
