uuencode without attachment

Hi All,
I'm using uuencode to send out mail from unix to lotus notes,but i dont have any attachment to send out, I'm getting this message in the body of the mail
Code:
"Usage: uuencode [ source ] remotedest"

however if i dont use uuencode I'm not able to send out mail
Please help

You should be able to send a mail without uuencode; try
Code:
echo test| mail -s testmail bla@bla.com

Implement a test like -e or -x if there is any file to attach or if it is >0 in size and then decide to send a normal mail using mail or combined with uuencode.
