I need a one liner to"

find /pattern/

print from x lines before "pattern" to y lines after "pattern"

here b is no of line before pattern and a is no of lines after pattern and s is pattern..
Code:
awk 'c-->0;$0~s{if(b)for(c=b+1;c>1;c--)print r[(NR-c+1)%b];print;c=a}b{r[NR%b]=$0}' b=3 a=5 s="pattern" filename

Hello why not use grep
Code:
grep -A m -B n 'pattern' infile

where m-> no of lines after pattern
n->no of lines before pattern

try ggrep;

Code:
/usr/sfw/bin/ggrep 'pattern' -Ay -Bx file

note y,x are numbers u gave.
