About the file /etc/rc.d/rc.local

My OS is RHEL5.0.

Code:

[root@node01 ~]# cat /etc/rc.d/rc.local
#!/bin/sh
#
# This script will be executed *after* all the other init scripts.
# You can put your own initialization stuff in here if you don't
# want to do the full Sys V style init stuff.
touch /var/lock/subsys/local

I appended echo "this is just for test " to file /etc/rc.d/rc.local,
I guest when I reboot my system, this is just for test will be displayed in the monitor.
But that didn't work.
Why?

Please post the rc.local file where you added the code. Thanks.

the file that I appended is:

Code:
[root@node01 xinetd.d]# cat /etc/rc.d/rc.local
#!/bin/sh
#
# This script will be executed *after* all the other init scripts.
# You can put your own initialization stuff in here if you don't
# want to do the full Sys V style init stuff.

touch /var/lock/subsys/local

echo "this is just for test"
