using regular expression for directories in find command

Hi,

I want to find the files available in a directory /var/user/*/*/data/.

I tried using the command "find /var/user/ -path '*/*/data/ -name '*' -type f" it says find: 0652-017 -path is not a valid option and then i tried using "find /var/user/ -name '*/*/data/*' -type f" but its not returning any values.

Could any one help me out please.

The -path option checks against the whole path of the entries returned. So if you start searching in /var/user/ explicitly, you'll have to use
Code:
find /var/user/ -path '/var/user/*/*/data/' ...

But I think it's much easier to just say
Code:
find /var/user/*/*/data/ -type f

Hi pludi,

Thanks for your response
when i am using -path option it says "find: 0652-017 -path is not a valid option"

when i am using expression directly like
find /var/user/*/*/data/ -type f its saying "find: 0652-010 The starting directory is not valid." Smilie

I am using AIX version 5.3

Well, find can only look through directories that exist, so make sure that at least one of the sub-sub-directories of /var/user has a sub-directory named data. Or maybe it's just that you mean /var/usr instead of /var/user, or some other typo.
