to my knowledge, there's nothing like that. gui ftp client is probably the answer for you. just curious, why do you want something like that anyway? is there anything specific you want to get done?

Yes, i have an account to a Unix Shell. From this host i must be able to copy directories with subdirectories to a ftp server.

Does that server only provide FTP service? It appears that this sort of question comes up over and over again on this board: ways to transfer files. If FTP is the only way and you only have a shell, you just gotta do it by hand while trying to utilize mget and mput as much as possible.

I never heard of Midnight Commander, so I looked it up...

The Midnight Commander Homepage says:
Quote:
GNU Midnight Commander is a file manager for free operating systems. Like other GNU software, it is written in a portable manner and should compile and run on a
wide range of operating systems with some degree of UNIX compatibility.
Unix has "some degree of UNIX compatibility".

When a question "comes up over and over", that should be a clue that using our search function might be profitable. Doing a search is required by our rules. I have just ignored this question the past few times that came up, since this violation of our rules incurs an automatic penalty.

However, there are two different solutions mentioned in Recursive FTP -- here at last.
