Combine commands

Hi,
i tried to combine grep with find and it didnt work
grep [pattern] 'find dirname filename"
i also would like that the file will be sorted in the way.
thanks a lot.

How about:

$ find dirname -name "filename" -type f -exec grep -l pattern {} \; | sort

This would give a sorted list of the files containing the pattern.

Is that what you are after?

Thanks a lot worked like a charm Smilie.

but didnt the grep -l suppose to print file names that doesnt cointain the pattern?
