Lightbulb Asking on concatenate variable

Hi ,
like to ask if we use ksh script to take in parameter into $1
and how do i concatenate the $1 value with some words into a variable?? Below is what i have written and i think is wrong ,how do i write it?

datafile="Report" || $1 || ".xls" (Should become Report2000.xls)
echo $datafile

You can simply use the following:

datafile="Report$1.xls"
echo $datafile
# 3

Question Asking on comparison

Hi , like to ask based on the script below how do i compare the 2 files whether it exists in the folder??? Even if the 2 files exist, i still get the error.

if [ ! -s ${REPORT1} ] || [ ! -s ${REPORT2} ] ;
then
echo "$(date) \t Report file not found. ERROR"
echo "$(date) \t Error encountered, aborting script ..."
exit
fi

Hi,

One remark is that datafile="Report$1.xls" should be :
datafile="Report${1}.xls"

Another thing is a thanks to thehoghunter would not look bad before you ask your second question.

The answer on your second question might be :

if [ ! -f "$file" ] || [ ! -f "$file" ]
then
echo ......
fi

Don't forget to quote !! In this case if one of the files does not excist you get the error message. If you want it different you might want to look at &&
