Is that address valid that your getting the error from?
Is the mail only addressed to that one individual? Or are there multiple addresses and that one is the one you get the error on? (Or are there multiple addresses you get the error on?)

If there are multiple addresses the email is sent to, the client generating the error may be part of an alias on one of the other addresses (which would account for the error AND the mail being delivered). If multiple addresses, check your aliases file.

What MTA are you using and version? What is the OS and version?

This error message is usually generated by SMTP server. There might be the possibility that the network b/w the your SMTP Server and the receipient SMTP server is congested.

Also the when the server first tries to send the message, and it if fails for some initial attempts, it generates the error, and keeps trying to send the message again.

Look into the time when the message ws generated and the when the message was received at the receipient. This might give u some clue.

Regards,
Yeheya
