Any risk in chging /etc/conf/pack.d directory symbolic link?

We are migrating off an unsupported Stratus Continuum Model 418 PA-RISC running FTX 3.3.0. We're trying to hang on as long as possible, but we're down to 2.8% free in /, so need to free up some space until we're ready to migrate our DB.

Currently /etc/conf/pack.d is symbolically linked to /etc/conf/pack_pa2.0.d

lrwxrwxrwx 1 root other 12 Jul 12 2006 pack.d -> pack_pa2.0.d
drwxr-xr-x 161 root sys 4096 Jul 23 2006 pack_pa2.0.d

We have copied pack_pa2.0.d to another filesystem and want to change the symbolic link to the other filesystem location and delete the content in /etc/conf/pack_pa2.0.d to free up about 8% in /.

The files under pack_pa2.0.d have not been updated since 1995. It also looks like they haven't been accessed recently. But this machine hasn't been rebooted for more than a year.

Is there any reason we should not change the pack.d link?

Thanks for your help.
