It's hard to be sure of a negative, but I don't believe that Sun has an equivalent of HP's make_recovery stuff.

Solaris doesn't have such a beast. Normal recovery procedure is to boot off of your CDROM media and then restore from backup. Your best bet is to mirror your root disk so that you get continuous operation even with one disk failure.

I know from experience that for the last 7 years I have not had to do a system OS restore when the OS drive was mirrored with DiskSuite (which come free with the OS). The other point, if you have servers that the OS is 'generic' then you can load the OS and have the server back up before the Tape Company gets the tape back to you or as fast as loading the OS from tape. Note that special files (/etc/hosts, /etc/networks, /etc/hostname.xxx {qfe, hme}, and others are saved monthly at our site to insure a server with special needs are rebuildable).

from sa, it says "Your best bet is to mirror your root disk so that you get continuous operation even with one disk failure", but over some time, the data will changed, and so how do we ensure that the mirror is updated?

Using DiskSuite and setting up a mirror, the data is up to date.

disk0 mirrored to disk1
A write occurs at the same time to both - no user intervention.
Reads happen quicker since the software will be able to read off two disks.

just some questions

1) DiskSuite is solstice?

2) currently, i have 2 hardisks (A, B), and is mirrored, any tools, commands, to monitor/learn this concept.

3) A is my current boot disk, so if A fails, B will automatically take over to boot and since they are mirroed synchronously, the data is consistent?

4) any other guides to web sites, etc..

thanks!
