There should be a startup script in /etc/rc2.d - look for S88sendmail or s88sendmail. If it's lower case s88sendmail, then rename it S88sendmail. Then it will start up on boot.

To manually start,
# /etc/rc2.d/S88sendmail start
or
# /etc/rc2.d/s88sendmail start

You should have a new account in the password file -
smmsp:x:25:25:SendMail Message Submission Program:/:

Empty?

Well, look to see if either submit.cf or subsidiary.cf exist (in /etc/mail/). If so, you can copy one of them over and make the changes needed for your environment.
