Question More space

Hi people,

How can i use the space of the multiple unused HDDs that
i have on the server?
Example:
I install oracle and the bootable HDD does not have enough space
for the installation. How can i place the oracle in another HDD?
there is any path to switch thru the installation or any other method
to stripe the drive???

Do you thing it is better to get one big HDD and install the OS and the database
together?

BTW this is on the sparc 5.

I appreciate your time.

thanks

Under SunOS, in general terms, you use the format command to carve a disk into slices. Then you use newfs to build a filesystem on the slices. But with oracle, you probably will want to use one of the slices for a raw database. There are man pages for both format and newfs.

And no, I don't think one big HD is better. Some of our systems are huge. I've never seen a 10 TB disk. Even if one was available, would you want to restore 10 TB from tapes if it fried out? And even if it was indestructable, the performance would be terrible. Dozens of drives are much faster than one drive.

Yes, but i can't install the oracle in another slice(partition) of the
same HDD because it is full- no more space.

just for this reason i ask the question how to stripe and use the space of the next available HDD. is this possible????

appreciate the help.
