retaining null values in ftp transfer

I am trying to ftp a file to a Unix server that contains null values. The file is on a Unisys system. It contains null values between data but when I look at the file on the Unix server, the nulls are gone and the data is compressed together. How do I not lose those null values?
TIA,
Betty

In your FTP session, type the command:
Code:
set mode I
If you use a GUI, check on an option to force Binary mode transfer. If there is an option to do "Auto" or "Smart", remove your file's extension (ie, ".txt") from the list of files to always process in "Text" or "ASCII" mode.
