domain logon problem - FreeBSD PDC w/ win2k pro and winxp pro

this is the seventh problem i'm having with samba.

for some reason, i cannot logon to the domain.

i've created user accounts... and i was able to establish a connection between
the samba server (my PDC) and my workstations by logging in as "root."

however now when i try to logon it gives the following error message:

"Logon Message

The system could not log you on. Make sure your User name and domain are
correct, then type your password again. Letters in the passwords must be typed
using the correct case. Make sure that Caps Lock is not accidently on."

i've created both system accounts and used smbpasswd -a to establish the
accounts. the odd thing is that i can connect to the samba server if i look
for it using the search feature and then type my username/password.

as always, any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

Hmmm...

I seem to recall that there are some registry fixes floating around related to samba wrt the hashing of passwords that are passed around for samba.

Check out this link and search for "Using Encrypted Passwords in Samba"

http://www.linuxjournal.com/article.php?sid=2717

Maybe it can be of some assistance.

Found a similiar page about encryped passwords:

http://www.jsanten.demon.nl/samba/smb_conf_adv.htm

Good luck!

i was told to apply the registry modification on my winxp pro system... but i wasn't told i'd need it with win2k.

i have applied it on my xp system... but it has given no positive results. :/

In your smb.conf file, are you using encrypted passwords?

Have you mapped the root user on the box over to Administrator on the domain? That's about all I can think of...
