How do I insert a column in a text or .dat file for a date.

It would be easy with awk.
That is an answer very like your question - not much help.
Give us exactly what you want, an example small filefile, and how it has to be when fiinished.

Text file example

Please find attached two files that need to be opened via wordpad. The first is an original without the date and the second one has the date embedded at the end. How can I use awk to create a date to each line item in the text file.
