I am having an error in my workstation. I want to reset it and start from scratch. I also want to add a 120 G. Drive to my workstation. I checked out a book at my local library on unix. I still can't figure out how to erase everything and install this drive, please help.

use /dev/zero
There is a device file on most systems called /dev/zero. It is exactly what it seems a file of zeros! If it is not there you should be able to create it.
If you write this file to the Harddrive it should do the trick. And I would do it seven times for completeness!! I don't know if this is supported on all systems... ![]() EDIT HERE:: I would put your OS on the small original disk and keep all other filesystems and data on the other large disk. This way if your OS dies you can just replace that one disk and reinstall without losing data. ![]() |
