Sometimes I need to remove all the files except one or more.I mean, there are 90 files and I want to remove 88 of them. how can i do that?is it possible to tell the "rm" command not to remove specified files?

No. You'd have to write a loop. Consider:
Code:
cp file_to_keep /tmp/ && rm -f * && cp /tmp/file_to_keep .
Or something along these lines:
Code:
ls | grep -v file_to_keep | xargs rm '{}'

You could tell the shell not to expand particular patterns,
search the forum and you'll find the answer.

If it's only one or two files that you want to keep, then the above answers are good.

But if it's a lot of files that are scattered among the list, then do an interactive rm:

rm -i *

The system will ask you if you want to delete each file.
