Help with telnet using putty on solaris 10 x86

Hi ... I am totally new to unix ... I just installed solaris 10 and internet is working. Everytime I try to telnet from my windows xp using Putty to solaris as root user, putty opens the command prompt window and close right away.

I also tried with ssh using Putty and I got a message "Using keyboard-interactive authentication" after entering the root as login as and "Access Denied" after entering the password.

I can login with the same account and password on the unix machine.

Please Help ... Thanks in advance.

Solaris Systems are not by default configured to have direct acces as root.
Although you can change this default behaviour but as a security measure you can not login directly through putty as root.
You need to login as a regular user then switch to root user.

Hi,

edit in Solari sthe file /etc/default/login and comment out CONSOLE, so you
can telnet as root to Solaris.
