Paging space is also known as swap space. If you have alot of processes running on your box, your physical memory might run low. What will happen is that UNIX will use swap space to hold processes to avoid running completely out of memory.

hd6 is the default logical volume for the swap space in AIX systems. Perhaps you are using an AIX system, right? A "logical volume" is something similar to a disk partition in Windoze and the first swap space, which is created during installation of the machine, is per default on the volume "hd6".
Issue "lsps -a" at the command line to see all the swap spaces in your system and how much they are used at the moment. bakunin |
