unix cat gives no output

hi,

i searched the forum, but found no thread relate to this; so sorry if it's duplicated.

I'm using unix cat command but it gives no output. I check permission, owner and group; all of which are OK. I could do less and vi.

any suggestions?

You may have a path problem -
What does this command show as output?

which cat

It should be: /usr/bin/cat

Yes, it is from /usr/bin.
I found the cause: someone accidentally modified the file. the cksum of the modified file is bigger than the good/original.
