updating kde 3.5 to 4.0

i know i can find doc's to upgrade on like thats not what im looking for im just here to ask how hard on 1 to 10 is it to do and how long would you say... please not im not a unix pro nor have any phython perl or c background but i do know html little php and basic qbasic and purebasic
... and is it worth the time?

there's no automatic way to do that, plus KDE 4.0 is still a "technology preview" i.e. - Beta Version; I tried on virtual machine, it took many hours tweaking the config, so I'd not recommend that. It's better to wait for a stable release and seamless upgrade, especially if you don't have much experience in Unix.

Actually the final release of KDE 4.0 was out a few weeks ago, but as a long term fan of KDE I don't recommend replacing any 3.x installations with 4.0 immediately either. I tried KDE 4.0 with the kubuntu live CD inside VMWare and it didn't quite impress me, anyway, especially the whole of kdepim isn't there yet, which is most important to me.

Some option windows are simply empty. I really doubt if the release is sufficiently complete as a stable release even though the version I was trying was the final release.

I would advise you to wait until KDE 4.1 is out and try again with a distribution that ships that out of the box. That can be another half a year away ....
