Samba on AIX 5.3

I have never installed Samba before and am having trouble. I downloaded the opt-samba-base.tar and the opt-samba-3.0.26a-AIX5 file as well and while it appears they both installed okay but it never created the /etc/samba or /usr/local/samba directories - just the /opt/pware/samba directory. I must be missing something - Can anyone help?

I believe you are downloading Samba from the official Samba website.
Are you compiling the source or simply getting the binary?
The weblink to the download is :
Index of /samba/ftp/Binary_Packages/AIX

This puts Samba in /opt as you have mentioned. All that you have to do is
edit the smb.conf and start the smbd and nmbd daemons.
If you want you can start SWAT also but that is optional.

Before anything read the README at:
http://us1.samba.org/samba/ftp/Binar...ges/AIX/README
This will surely help you in installation and configuration.

All the best.
