incr # telnet sessions - emergency
we moved to new server this weekend.
npty nstrpty nstrtel all set to 700 now this AM, users are getting on and after 60 (which was the default for those parms) users - everyone else gets a telnet msg. I urgently need to know what is causing this and how to fix. thank you. Lisa |

I found something on HP IT forums about issuing
insf -e this seemed to work - at least more users are getting on now. if this is the ultimate fix, I'd like to change my question to "why doesn't this happen at the boot?????" if there is something else left to do, I leave the original question open. |

It doesn't happen at boot because it is rare that you need to populate the /dev directory and most people like a reboot to complete as quickly as possible. If you really want to run "insf -e" on every reboot you could add another script to the bootup scripts to do that.

on a related note:
we believe a insf -e was run after the kernel changes were in effect. I am now unsure as to why we had to do it again to build out the devices. we did install some patches in the meantime. For future reference, is there a requirement to run insf -e after applying some or most patches? would patching have caused it to revert to original configuration? this is HPUX 11.23 i64 Lisa |
