/ filesystem is mounted read only

how do you fsck the / filesystem? I know it does it automatically the next time I boot up following a switch on the wall shutdown but is there a flad somewhere that forces this on next boot up?

Thanks

This depends on the OS.

If you had a power failure I recommend booting box into single user mode and having a look around before going multi-user. This is a good opportunity to run fsck on each volume.

Reboots the box and FSCKs the lot on the way back up. I knew I'd seen it before.
