Question converting files from unix to windows

Need Help?? We receive Files From GM Motors and they written on a Sun Workstation using the Tar Command on a 4mm Dat Tape. We have an HP sure Store 24 Tape drive that will Execpt but when i do that it says that the media is bad. was wondering if there was any software that would read it in its tar form and convert it to windows format. Any help would be appreacaited.

Did you make sure to issue a rewind command to your tape drive? If you did, it is quite possible the tape is bad. It might help if you knew the exact command they used to tar the file with too.

Also, did you make sure your tape drive is compatible with their tapes? For example, if they wrote the tape on a DDS4 tape, and you have a DDS3 tape drive (what I'm assuming since you said SureStore 24), then it won't read.

I assume your HP sure Store 24 Tape drive is on attached to a
Windoze machine?

To extract .tar and .tar.gz files on Windows 95, 98 or NT, use PowerArchiver 6.1 (freeware)

You can find links to it at...
http://www.gzip.org/

I hope I understood you correctly.
