SunOS 4.1.4 add_services
Hi, I know this OS is ancient but we are running it, I am trying to use the add_services under /usr/etc/install and it reads table of contents ok, but after it asks if im done with the form it goes back to the prompt and says
add_services:cannot read arch_list file I've tried putting this file(which just has the machine arch on one line) in the directory. I did recompile the kernel after I installed the OS. I tried doing a shutdown now to single user mode, got same error. Anyone ever gotten this error or know what the dilio is? |

What "service" are you trying to implement? It seems to me that services were not something you needed to rebuild the kernel for - but then again, we are talking about 4.1.4.
Check your /etc/inetd.conf for services. For info on how to custom configure a kernel, see the file /usr/sys/`arch`/conf/README. |

SunOS 4.1.4 add_services
It's like a menu thing where you tell it to edit your existing release and then
it asks you where to look for the table of contents, so you tell it sr0 for the cdrom, which it mounts and reads for you, then it asks you if you want to add all packages, required, or own choice. then it asks you if you are done with the form, and then its supposed to run through and install your picks, like the different bundled options that came with sunos414, openwindows, manual, text, etc. But it exits out to the prompt with that error. It was working originally, my only guess is that cause the kernel was recompiled its retarded and doesnt know how to continue...it's not too big of a deal cause really why I wanted to use it was to just install everything that the OS disk has on it so I can be sure programs im trying to compile like gcc, top, tcsh wont be erroring out because of some OS file thats not there. I finally got gcc compiled after it sat there all night compiling it, but im still getting errors trying to compile top and tcsh, it's a pain when you dont know jack about makefiles or shell scripting. |
