UNIX problem? Unix programm runs windows 2000 CPU over 100%

Okee problems...!!
What is happening: Unix server with some programms, workstations are windows 2000, the workstations work good but when you start a programm on the Unix server the CPU of the workstations go to 100% usage resulting that the system gets very slow. The programm well its running so slow that it gives a lot of frustration around.
The workstations are PIII 800Mhz with 128 SDRAM

Does anyone have an idea of where the problem is???

Another thing that caught me notice is that even the disk cleaner reacts almost similair as the unix programm. The CPU gets also to 100% but it is very good to work with other programms at the same time.

I believe that the problem lies not at the workstations but somewhere between the UNIX system and the workstation or just on the UNIX server.

I have flashed the BIOS of the windows 2000 didn't work. So if there is someone around here who has the answer I would be gratefull.

greetings

How are you accessing the Unix server? If it's an Xwindows server/client, your problem may lie in the way the program refreshes the screen.

I've noticed higher CPU/mem usage with Reflections X connecting to a server on our network when the screen is refreshing rapidly... I gave up the windowing system and swithed to PuTTY instead... no problems!

Well the programms the users work with is schoolplus, this programm works on the UNIX server and gets started by the workstations. So to what I know of it isn't the problem with refresh rates. On a windows NT 4.0 workstation the schoolplus programm works without the cpu % at 100%. So what I think is that windows just can't work together with the UNIX.

Thanks for your post
