Hey everyone,

We have a Windows2003 Domain here at my workplace. I'm getting ready to switch over our bottom floor to the new domain. Will they still be able to see our UNIX machine that is setup now (on our workgroup) or will I need to join the UNIX machine to the domain. If that is the case could someone give me some step-by-step instructions? I've never used UNIX.

Unix machines do not need to be joined to a Windows domain. If they are running an NFS share or a Samba type agent, then maybe. I have never head of a Unix machine on a Windows domain.

Alright, so they will still be able to see the UNIX machine with no problem eventho they are joined to the w2k3 domain?

Unless there is some file sharing software that your office is running or the users need to see the machines by browsing the network, the Unix machines do not join the domain. I nver have seen a Unix machine join a Windows domain. i access all my Unix machines with Telnet or an X-Windows type program. We use our software to access databases loaded on the Unix boxes.

You don't have too ..but you could. We have joined our UNIX box to Windows 2k3 domain since we use samba for files sharing. That way it is a lot easier for authentication. If you do so, google for kerberos.
