Advantages of linux over solaris:
1) Better hardware support -- more drivers; also not just sparc and x86, but ppc and more. 2) Better software license -- no restrictions on what you use the OS for 3) Doesn't have a tradition running decades of half-assedly supporting x86 for a brief period then withdrawing x86 support. It's just plain easier to get, easier to find hardware for, and easier to run. Solaris makes you jump through hoops. I also happen to think linux is better, but I'll leave that to the users. |
