Mail from UNIX to GMail

Hi,

I am trying to send mail from UNIX with attachment to gmail, bigpond addresses, but when the mail arrives the attachment is actually embedded in the body, showing junk charcters.
The attchament I tried is PF and TXT files, both filetypes have the above mentioned problem.
I have tried mailx and sendmail both.
Here is what I am using
1.
uuencode order.txt order.txt | mailx -s "subject" - r "sender@sender.com" "receiver@receiver.com"

2.
uuencode order.pdf order.pdf |sendmail -r "sender@sender.com" "
receiver@receiver.com"

Any input will be appreciated.

Cheers.
