Hi guys,

What product would you suggest for a hot/on-line backup

I have always favored Veritas. I think both work fine though.

Red face I'd pick Veritas

If you have the money to afford it go with Veritas. Currently I'm using Legato it works pretty much without a problem but Veritas gives you alot of extras that you don't get with Legato. I've have also found Legato's index file can go corrupt for no reason and if it happens all your backups are no longer usable. Good Luck

I have implemented various backup packages for use with Oracle Databases including Veritas Netbackup, Legato NetWorker, and Alexandria. IMHO, Netbackup is by far the easiest to implement and the most reliable.

Thank you all very much guys !

Regarding that 'Netbackup', is it a normal company's product or
it comes with the sqlplus or the oracle database?
Any further info will be appreciated.
Thanks again

I like Legato, but that could be because I am more familiar with it. And if your index gets corrupt, it is usually because of a disk getting full, but this is fixable, by restoring the index from one of the tapes in your repository. They both cost considerable money, and you have to separately purchase separate modules to do things like backup live databases. I know Legato offers pretty good training classes.
