Unix beginner book help

Due to my new job I need to learn Unix to advance in the company and I am mainly a windows and mac user. What is a good book to get me started on the right path and hopefully prevent me from wasting money on several books and weeks of reading. Any response is welcomed thanks in advance.

Unix Shells by Example, Fourth Edition by Ellie Quigley is a must have. It is the best written unix shell book I have ever seen.

not book but DVD

There are plenty of great books about UNIX but there’s “UNIX Essentials and UNIX Core” DVD. It is superior to any book, I got mine some two month ago and whatever I learned about UNIX so far takes root in this DVD course. It is widely available; you can get one from Amazon for example. The problem with any book that you go through iterations: read, type, try to read output and read again. There’s much behind the scene, in dynamic, and this DVD addresses many of these issues. If you are beginner and need start fast, to be able get into really heavy system administration subjects there’s no better way that I have found.
