Personally I don't recomend limting yourself to one particular platform. You already have some knowledge and experience with .net and Microsoft etc. So switching to unix and linux is not a bad idea, just keep up with your other skills as much as possible, you never know where this industry will turn, it's best to get as much experience with as many platforms and languages as possible. That will at least insure your markeability and hopefully keep you employed. I have been working in IT for 25 years and for many companies and multiple platforms, in different industries. There is only one thing that I can gurantee is for certain and that is constant change. Whatever path you take just always remember what's most important is that you find it interesting enough to apply yourself, even if they pay you a ton of money, if you don't like it your going to burn out. Always be ready to learn something new it's never to late and the more you know the easier it get to learn the next thing. You will always be re-educating yourself if you want to continue to work in IT.
