listing directories of an external hard drive
How do I do it? I have a mac and a pc and am having a time cd-ing to the external drive.

I think you need to be more specific about the problems that you're having - is this an external USB hard disk, which Operating System are you using (uname -a), does it get automatically mounted when you connect it (post output of mount command without options), etc, etc. We need a lot more information in order to assist.
