Help to install HP-UX

Hi everyone

Actually I even do not know what to start from.
My new responsibilities at work is to support a HP-UX mashine as our administrator left . I would like to install the HP-UX 10.20 on my PC (Pentium 3 ...) to get some experience with this but actually nobody knows here how to do this (even our last admin can not explain this)and wether it is possible to install HP-UX on x86 compatible.
I have CD - "HP-UX install and core OS software" but I can not boot from this. May be I need setup diskettes I do not know. Actually I think that my HPUX is only for HP 9000 series mashines (written on the disk), Could it be the cause of the problem?

Please help.
Thanks all for this site

most *nix install cds are hardware specific as they need to install the proper drivers and settings for the os to work ... since the disk says it is for HP 9000 machines --- that is the only hardware it will work on ... good luck!

If you dont have any experience with Unix based systems, you could try getting a linux distro to install on your pc just for some practice. There will be some similarities. then you can just study the differences between HP-UX and linux... just a thought... I dont believe you will have any luck with HP-UX on a pc. Unless you find a workstation somewhere to practice on.

That is correct. You won't be able to install HP-UX 10.20 on a pc. Ask you boss for a used D370 or an other one like that, it will run HP-UX 10.20 perfectly. You may find some used on ebay.

HP-UX runs on intel (Itanium), but you will have to have the intel version too...

Thanks to everyone
I think that I will try to install Linux at first on my pc (here in Russia Red Hat is possible to buy in the shop). Also I have found some used HP workstations on e-bay and I will try to persuade my boss to purshaise it (or I will pay myself).
Thanks again to everybody

10.20 does not run on Itanium.
