Help me spend $1000

Hey,

As part of a Master's Degree program in Aeronautical Engineering I need a dedicated Unix PC to run a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) code in Fortran. Each run to model a single flow can take several days or weeks, so optimizing system resources is the only consideration. I need to buy the PC and have it running by Dec. 21. I have minimal programming experience and know nothing about Unix. I don't even know where to get it or what version to use. Can someone please help me get started.

I need advice on how to:
1) Construct/Buy a PC
2) Install Unix and a Fortran compiler
3) Export data to a Windows PC to be modeled in Tecplot

This will get you started with regards as to where you can get Unix. Most Linux distributions will usually come with a GNU fortran compiler installed.

Also; please do not post your email address in the forums - it is against our rules.

Thanks
