fsck - what should be done?

I want to use fsck to check and repair my linux system. When I use this command, what do I need to pay attention to or what should I do to make job running successfully. Thanks for your inputs for a newbie.

fsck will check and repair your filesystem all by itself. You just have to say 'y' or 'n' when it asks for confirmation about certain tasks. Then it will carry out those tasks (or wont..) If you are expecting a lot of errors in the filesystem, there is a '-y' switch that you can specify. This answers 'y' to all the questions that fsck will ask.

The best thing to do is upgrade your Linux and use the ext3 or Reiser filesystem. These are logging filesystems, and make fsck (almost) obsolete. :-)
