IBM Want to change common line from multiple files
Hi everyone,

I've a requirement to modify an existing line which is common to multiple files. I need to replace that existing line with a new line. I've almost 900 ksh files to edit in the similar fashion in the same directory.
Example:
Existing Line: . $HOME/.eff.env (notice the "." at the start)
New Line: $SH/utility.ksh

Can anyone have any suggestions on this?

So the new line does not have the . at front?

Code:
sed -i 's#\. $HOME/\.eff\.env#$SH/utility.ksh#' filename

Try it on one file and see what it does.

IBM I forgot to mention it's a SunOS m/c
Thanks Corona for the prompt reply, appreciate it.
I forgot to mention the details of my OS which is SunOS. So I think the sed options might differ.
For this one "-i" is not recognized as a legal option.

ed is the perfect tool for the job. In addition to the substitute command (as demonstrated by Corona's sed suggestion), you'll need to w(rite) as well.

How to rename multiple files with a common suffix
