UNIX without GUI

Hello guys,

I am new to Unix, because of low RAM, i want to install Unix terminal (command line) without the GUI. Basically, i want to install two Unix OS (without the GUI) on VMware and make a TCP connection between them. I have a total of 2GB RAM on the host computer running window 7, so i want a light version of Unix so that it all runs smoothly. Can anyone provide a download link for such non GUI version of Unix? and if it is not too much to ask could you also provide a guide for such connection. Thanks in advance.

Dear jilliagre,

I will explain the whole situation. I am working on windows 7 and i have installed VMware on it. I want to create 2 virtual machines running Unix (solaris). First i want to download the setup file for Unix but without GUI as i explained above but i could not find a link for this download. After that, i want to connect these two machine together so i can transfer files between them using FTP. i will write a script to do the transfer automatically. So if you please could you provide a link for downloading Unix Solaris without GUI (.iso) and the steps for doing such connection.

You will not find a download link for a non-GUI version of Solaris or indeed most versions of Linux. This is something you generally select at install time.

Not sure how you plan to balance your RAM between these instances but 2 GB is probably not enough to reliably (if at all) run your Windows 7 host and both of the Solaris guests, even in console mode.

On the other hand, if your goal is simply to experiment with ftp between two Solaris servers, you might just install one Solaris VM and create at least one non global zone in it.

i found in (Solaris 10 8/07 Installation Guide: Basic Installations - page 12) that for x86 the memory requirement for the text mode is 384-512 MB.
