ls display

Hi,
When i list the subfolders in my Hp-Ux machine ,iam getting like this
$ls -ltr
total 14
-rw-r--r-- 1 sss users 6747 Aug 15 02:09

it is showing total as 14,but it is showing one file only!.plz tell me why is this?

Hi !
I'm not sure about this... I'm not using HP-UX, but try ls -al. The a option is used to see the hidden files (those who start with . ).

Hi,
its nt specific for Hp-ux.if i do ls -al also,iam getting total as some number,but iam getting only less number of files displayed.where are the other files?
and also
2)i just installed cygwin in my windows machine.iam not able to open vi .do i need to explixitly install vi editor?

The first line in the output is the total sum of all file sizes. From man ls:
Quote:
-l (The lowercase letter ``ell''.) List in long format. (See below.) If the output is to a terminal, a total sum for all the file sizes is output on a line before the long listing.
This is probably in terms of blocks occupied and not in kilobytes.
