If your course is concentrating on UNIX as opposed to Linux I would recommend taking take part in the Solaris 8 free binary licence program from Sun - visit http://www.sun.com/software/solaris/binaries/get.html - and get the binaries.

Regards.

That will work as long as you've got a lot of bandwidth, and a CD burner. If it's too tough to download, you can buy the set (for your architecture) for about $75 USD. The exact details are on the www.sun.com website. Also, look into www.bsd.org for some more downloadable (or bought for a few dollars) Unix clones.
