in need of serious help with Grub and Linux, Windows XP
Ok, here's the thing... I have a computer that has both Fedora Core 3 Linux and Windows XP Pro. I have it so the MBR loads in the Windows style (black screen with a 30 second pause to choose either Fedora Core or Windows) Now if I select Fedora Core, it starts its own OS selector (I believe it's the GRUB working underneath Windows MBR) so...
Now this problem came up SO RANDOMLY AND ITS DRIVING ME NUTS! When I select Fedora Core 3... I get this black screen that says GRUB and if my printer's on, it begins printing GRUB over and over ( 3 times on a piece of paper) and the underscore does show... but there's nothing you can do! It's just GRUB_ I've tried doing this technique... loaded linux rescue (through the install disc) and entered: chroot /mnt/sysimage (then) grub-install /dev/hda2 (thats the partition FC3 is on) (then lastly) reboot I try loading FC3 again and get the samething! SOMEONE PLZ HELP! |

That is the crazyest thing I have ever heard...
Anyway, screw Fedora Core and go with something else such as Gentoo, Slackware, maybe even FreeBSD (UNIX). Also, if these are too advance for you then try Mandrake Linux or Suse. They are a lot like Fedora code but just look different. ![]() |

Aye...
This is driving me nuts and it's so random too! I was just using the internet the last time I used the d*mn thing... Is there anyone that knows something?
Do those other Linuxes, Mandrake, etc work like Redhat since my college uses Redhat 9? I know Fedora Core is very close to it and thats why I liked it in the 3 months that I had it running. |

RedHat is for newbis! Get Mandrake or Suse. They are like RedHat but look different. Also, when you think about it... there is no differents between any linux OS. They might *look* different but they still have a command liee.
