Post printer

I would like to set up my printer for linux RedHat7.1
I've used printtool (or should I say printconf-gui) and selected the correct driver, but I have no responce from the printer, instead I see this error:
device /dev/lp0 cannot be found. (or something to the effect of: *whine, I can't see /dev/lp0") I have a /dev/lp0
do I need to change it's permissions?
thanks

In the /dev directory there is a shell script that is used to make device files. One path is to check to see if you can remake the drivers (not that I'm sure it is necessary) by running the script. There is also a nice readme there, discussing making device files.

Post kernel module?

lpd: lpd shutdown succeeded
modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module char-major-6
lpd: lpd startup succeeded

this is what I get [in /var/logs/messages] when I restart my printer daemon.
I was unable to 'locate' any 'char-major-6' anywhere...
so, this is a kernel problem? or am i insane?
