A few newbie questions

![]() I just wanted to ask a few basic questions really. I'm telnetting to a remote host and I've finally found out that I'm using a csh shell. My questions are: 1. Is the somename@something, the user group logged in? 2. How do I change user? I'm really lost so I hope someone can help Thank you!hellz. |

if you mean by someone@something is someones email. then something is the domain name from the server. Someone is the user nick on the server.
you can change uses on a server by typeing su nick. then you switch to user nick. you must type his password before you are nick. to go to root you can simply type su or su root. if you are root you can change to anyone without typing a password. i hope this is the information you are searching for |

Hi guys,
That was what I was looking for, thank you very much. It's brought up one other question I have though, from the passwd file, the lines output in a way like this:demos::993:997 emonstration User:/usr/demos:/bin/cshOutOfBox::995:997:Out of Box Experience:/usr/people/tour:/bin/csh As you can see, those don't have passwords, but what part of the lines is the username? Thanks ever so much again. ![]() hellz. |
