im ultra new at unix and was wondering if its possible to create aliases of the write command that send messeges to users using an ip address. i was thinking to use the '|awk' with the command finger but as i've said im a total newbie. thanks a lot in advance.

Well in a related note I'm curious if there is a way to query the hostname of a machine remotely.
For example, if a network is migrated, I'd love to have a script to query a box by hostname or IP and have the machine spit out the hostname on the box located on that IP for verification. |
