Wink X window problem

Hi UNIX guys,

I occasionally meet such problem when I am using my X Window:

The machine suddenly hangs up. Mouse pointer doesn't move, Ctrl+Alt+Del doesn't work, Ctrl+Alt+Backspace doesn't work either. I have to turn the power off to reboot.

My machine is like following,

- OS: Red Hat Linux 6.0, kernel-2.2.5-15.i586
- X server: XFree86-SVGA-3.3.6-35.i386
- Display adaptor: SiS 6326 AGP
- Memory: 128MB
- CPU: K6-II 500

I don't think it is a hardware problem / failure. It runs well in Windows 98. Should I download another X server?

Any answer is welcome!

Eddie

Are you running GNOME? If so try to change Window Manager to KDE or other lightwieght window managers. And check log for any hint.

Yes, I am using GNOME which is my favourite window style. Do you mean GNOME is heavier than others, such like KDE? If the hung-up is really caused by GNOME, I would consider changing my X window style from GNOME to others. BTW, is it possible to download an upgraded version of GNOME? I still like GNOME...

Thanks.
