I'm trying to cd into a home directory with

cd ~username_here

and I'm getting the following error:

~username_here: does not exist

The directory exists and I can directly go to it via cd /export/home/username_here without any problems.

Any suggestions?

... make sure you're using ksh, bash or another shell that can translate ~ ... if yes, then look at whether the system can automount /export/home/user into /home/user ...

Your problem may be in the use of ~. cd ~ will put you into your home directory - you are then telling it to go into your home directory to username_here. Unless you have that directory in your home directory, then it will not work.

Try

cd ~/username_here

I believe the particular shell was the issue. Apparently, the Bourne shell can not translate ~ . When I switched to the Korn shell, the command worked as planned.
