bad pci slot?

Hi,

im having a problem installing my pci wireless card. Im using knoppix, but my problem is with the mobo i think. im using an older laptop, toshiba satellite 2540 and when i plug in the card i get lights on sometimes. this means its getting power right. so then to install the card into the etc/pcmcia config file, i run cardctl info and i get there is nothing to report or unix similar. when i run knoopix with the card in my other newer laptop everything works fine and loads the correct driver and works right out of the box. so this tells me it must be a pci irq mobo problem or something.

also during hte boot, it tells me during the pci phase :yenti socket error and seems to reference irq. can anyone give me some pointers as to how i can test this pci. i dont have windows only knoppix installed on the hardrive.
