Hello,
I'm a spankin' newbie on Unix.
I've always wanted to learn Unix ever since I saw HPUX in a CAM station of a manufacturing company, but people have been telling me that there's no future in Unix.
They say that only governments are using it, and internet related companies still use them just because the internet was built on it.
I'm assuming that it's a common mis-conception, but can anyone give me honest opinion on where the Unix is heading?

The server that hosts this web site is Linux, which is a UNIX type of OS.

These UNIX-type platforms, including Linux et al, make up the vast majority of web servers, mail servers and application servers on the net today.

64-bit UNIX and Linux systems are far ahead of other OSes. Apple is there with a 64-bit Darwin core.

So, it is safe to say that UNIX-based systems are doing fine, from a technical perspective.

I'm closing the thread to avoid having folks flame you for such a post, laughing out loud.

Go ask you question in a Microsoft forum, they will give you a different answer.
